Welcome to my lab!
We study microbial communities in soil and the critical roles they play in supporting the functioning of terrestrial ecosystems. Soil is a fascinating habitat to study - it is the most diverse microbial habitat on earth! In soil, you will find microbes that decompose organic matter, fix nitrogen, degrade pollutants, produce antibiotics, and more! Research in the lab is mostly concerned with how microorganisms and their ecosystem functions respond to stress from anthropogenic global change factors, including land management and climate change. To accomplish our research goals, we use techniques ranging from culture-based microbiology to ecosystem ecology to metagenomics. Ultimately, our goal is to better understand the microbial components of soil food webs so that we can better predict how global change factors will influence the long-term health of our soils. We are a collaborative and inclusive group that values diverse perspectives. We are currently recruiting Graduate Students and also looking for a Lab Analyst!
